EAT & DRINK featured on IdealBite.com

Think all it takes to fake a home-cooked meal is hiding the Hamburger Helper? New tactic: Flip open the latest edition of Eat & Drink in the Northwest, a quarterly cookbook highlighting seasonal, local ingredients. Self-published in Seattle by local chef Melissa Peterman and wine guru Marcus Pape, E&DN's loaded with recipes, including Roasted Cauliflower and Butternut Squash Pizza, and Pistachio-crusted Lamb Chops with Celery Root (pleasant surprise: It takes only about 10 minutes to prep) - plus pairings from local wineries like William Church and Va Piano. The book's printed on FSC-certified paper and bound using nontoxic glue, and by using local ingredients, you'll minimize CO2 emissions from long-distance shipping. Good ploy.

EAT & DRINK - Book 3 Now Available for the Holidays!
EAT & DRINK is proud to announce the third release in our collection of seasonal books, offering 20 recipes and approximately 60 wines. As with the first two books, our objective remains the same – encouraging you to experience the Northwest through food and wine. Each unique recipe was created specifically for this book and includes detailed instructions and cook’s tips. The wines were chosen for their ability to complement the flavors in each dish, but we’ve also included general pairing suggestions as a way to promote experimentation.
This book was truly inspired by seasonal ingredients that reflect the cooling weather of fall and winter. This time of year offers so many exceptional flavors to choose from. Whether it be squash, apples, mushrooms or hearty meats, each recipe is sure to warm your belly and fill your house with the long lasting smells of the season. Invite friends and family over to make it a truly memorable experience.

Another gorgeous Pinot from Carlton Cellars - a new discovery for us thanks to our friends at Helsinqi.com. Great color with fresh cherry pie aromas and just a subtle hint of oak. Not as earthy as the Roads End but it still retains that bright acidity and soft tannin structure. Spicy wood and cedarbox complement the red cherry flavors. A great option for savory game and pork dishes, especially when served with a vegetable or mushroom sauce/side.

A beautiful Oregon Pinot with deep earthy, black cherry and spicy wood aromas and flavors. The bright acidity makes this a lively option to pair with fatty, or heartier, dishes. But the smooth silky tannins definitely make it an enjoyment to drink on its own. I recommend savory salmon or a rich barbeque pork.

Rich in texture but light on the palate with crisp acidity for a clean refreshing finish. Full ripe flavors of lemon, green apple, apricot, and pineapple make for a delicious summer sipper, while the balance of this low alcohol wine make it very food friendly.

A HOT Time in the Willamette Valley!
If I were to use only one word to sum up our trip to Oregon’s Willamette Valley last weekend it would be “HOT!” It’s been such a cold wet spring this year in the Northwest, so of course we would pick one of the hottest weekends to drive around wine country. On Friday it was a consistent 100 degrees all day and at one point I think it even got up near 110. Did I mention that it was “HOT!” Anyway, I guess my purpose wasn’t to give you a weather report but instead to let you know how things went with our visit to the Willamette Valley. Things went well. We drank some good wine, met some nice people, and had a great wine country experience. Some of the wineries we visited included…
The Eyrie Vineyards, a must visit in McMinnville for fantastic wine. Raptor Ridge (by appointment), where Andrea took good care of us. Chehalem (by appointment), offering numerous tastings and a friendly place to escape the heat.

It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it!
On the way down to Willamette Valley for some Oregon Wine Country research...Yeah that's right, I said "research." Also known as eating and drinking. Hey, what can I tell you? Putting out a new food and wine pairing book every three months takes a lot of "research".
We've got the new Summer release of EAT & DRINK coming out toward the end of June. So, of course we had to hit the road for some of Oregon's finest wines to pair with Melissa's exceptional recipes, which will include various grilled meats and vegetable dishes, along with plenty of fresh fruit, salads, and veggie items.
We'll keep you posted...
