Des Voigne Cellars has moved to a new location

Des Voigne Cellars has moved a whopping 200 feet from our old location.  We're now in Suite B-500 of Woodinville Park North, one building closer to the road.  For those of you who loved the old place with its cramped tasting room and no parking we're sorry to say that our new place is very spacious, easily holding dozens of tasters comfortably and loads of parking right in front.   Tasting room hours are the same, Saturdays from noon to 4:00, and we'll be having an open house to break in the new joint in mid October.  Check back for details.

Wine Press Northwest rates 2006 San Remo "Outstanding"

We're very pleased to announce that in their current issue focusing on Italian varietals Wine Press Northwest has rated the 2006 "San Remo" Sangiovese "Outstanding", their highest rating. Pick up a copy and read the rave or, better yet, swing by the winery and pick up a few bottles and experience it for yourself!

Praise for the "Untitled"

Our latest release, "Untitled", a blend of Cab Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot, just received the Vintner's Award for Outstanding Washington Wine from the Seattle Wine Awards. The award was given in the Proprietor's Blend category. Previous recipients have included Spring Valley Vineyards, Pepper Bridge Winery, Brian Carter Cellars, Basel Cellars and Dunham Cellars, so we are very proud to be in their company.
We still have some Untitled left but it is going quickly so get some before the results are published and the teeming hordes snatch it all up!

Des Voigne Cellars Open House May 31st

Consider this an open invitation to come by the winery May 31st from noon to 4 and sample the new releases of our most popular wines, the 2006 "San Remo" Sangiovese and 2006 "The Duke" Zinfandel blend. Anticipation for both has been very high ever since the 2005's sold out and we expect the 06's to sell out pretty quickly, so why not come to the party, have some food, hang with the gang and pick up a case or five while they last?

We found this bottle on our rack where it had sat for a few months after being given to us by a dinner guest. We had no idea what to expect when we pulled the cork. At first the aromas were a little tight but after a 10 minutes in the glass they blossomed with raspberry, blackberry and a touch of black pepper. The flavors were juicy and ripe, fruit forward to the point of almost seeming like a new world wine. The tannins were soft and integrated, acids balanced with a long, spicy finish.
The first thing you notice is the large size and weight of the bottle and the modern looking label. Based on the packaging alone I assumed this would be a bottle in the $25-$30 range, and the quality of the wine would support that price. After looking it up and finding that it sold between $14 and $18 I knew we had found a new daily drinker.

Stack
The Mirage Hotel and Casino
Las Vegas, NV

Another late night in Vegas and we were starving so we wandered down the strip to the Mirage Hotel headed to Stack. We'd heard great things about the menu and they did not disappoint!
We were seated at a nice table on the rail overlooking the casino and indulged in some good people watching while we poured cocktails on our empty stomachs. The Agave Margartia was smooth and got the job done and the Mojitos were perfectly made.
We asked our server to bring us a sampling of their specialties and we were soon narfing down Miso black cod on lettuce wraps, yellowtail sashimi topped with jalapeno and crunchy tuna tacos. All were fantastic, but the highlight was definitely the Hot Rocks. Thin strips of marinated tenderloin are brought out raw with a bamboo steamer basket holding a river rock. The rock is soaked in water for 48 hours then super heated in the oven. The result is like a tableside mongolian grill. You place a slice of tenderloin on the rock for 3-5 seconds a... ...

Had dinner and drinks at Mix the other night as part of our annual guys trip to Vegas. The bar was very swank with dim lighting and a DJ spinning some very cool groove music. Their beer selection was a bit limited and the cocktails were overpriced but the service, atmosphere and view made it well worth it.
After a few drinks our group of 10 headed to the restaurant for dinner. We were seated right away at a great table despite having only made reservations a couple hours earlier. The wine menu was prety standard for Vegas, with glass pours that were limited in quality and quantity and a huge selection of premium bottles which was very impressive although with prices about double what you would expect in any non-Vegas restaurants. For dinner I had the venison medallions which were perfectly prepared in a dark cherry and wine reduction. The bison, duck and halibut were other entrees popular with our group, however the guys who had duck and halibut were still a little...

The (Unofficial) Woodinville Winery Walking Tour

Most people who know about Woodinville wineries immediately think of the town as home to Chateau Ste. Michelle and, for a little longer, Columbia. Many others know Betz Family Winery and DeLille Cellars, Woodinville's most famous of the boutique set. What I am finding more and more is that people, not just from Seattle or Bellevue, but who live right in Woodinville don't know how many wineries they have sitting right in their backyard.
If you're ever headed to the Chateau, do yourself a favor and head just one exit up on Hwy 522 and turn left on 144th. 1/4 mile down the road is a little business park called Woodinville Park North, home to a dance studio, a copy repair shop, oh yeah, and at last count, 16 wineries, about half of which are open for tasting on Saturdays. In the interest of full disclosure, yes, Des Voigne Cellars is one of those wineries. However, as if that wasn't enough of a draw, what's really great about this mini tasting loop is that after sampling at our... ...

How do the Wine Scores equate to each other?

Different people like to rate wines in different ways, and we aim to please. So we give you 2 options.

You can rate wine on a scale of 0-5 Glasses, or for finer detail, you can rate wine on a 100 point scale.

We do the conversion for you so all Wine Ratings display both values. The table below shows you the conversion:

= 50 points or less.
= 51 - 57 points.
= 58 - 62 points.
= 63 - 67 points.
= 68 - 72 points.
= 73 - 77 points.
= 78 - 82 points.
= 83 - 87 points.
= 88 - 92 points.
= 93 - 96 points.
= 97 - 100 points
